Pray the Mighty TiVO

I’m just bored and love this show, and in light of why all the once highly rated shows (such as Heroes) have taken a plunge in ratings, well, at least this show is up (probably b/c old people watch CBS and old people tend to be scared of new technologies, such as the TiVO, but anyway), Enjoy…

Oh, and have I mentioned my hate of the outdated Nielsen system, others feel the same way, read article from the SCI-FI WIRE

Happy Thanksgiving…

…to those of us who have to work (and I only wish to those who like me have to work, since the rest of you aren’t gonna be working, you’ll already happy (unless you actually like your job)). I don’t work at a hospital, police station, broadcast station, movie theaters, fire stations (let’s just sum it all up to emergency services), behind the scenes of any parades, football games, or a grocery store (yep, a lot of those are open on Thanksgiving, since American tend to be quite the procrastinators). No, I work in retail, yeah, retail. Bad enough we have Black Friday a day after, now I got to work on a Holiday. Yeppie! I was told time and a half, and I’m holding that to them. Now, I don’t care too much for family gatherings (kind of hate them), but I would love to be able to watch more of my Real Ghostbusters complete series I got from Time Life. So worth the nearly $200 (including shipping) to have 25 DVDs of this awesome cartoon series based on one of the most awesome movies ever made.

*sighs*

I Live in a Craphole

Was driving to my dentist appointment today, and the only one theater in the town is on my way. Took a quick look and noticed something strange; They aren’t showing Twilight (I know, a teeney-esque film, but I love vampire stuff, so I kind of want to see it). Odd. When I got home, I checked all the surrounding areas, a 30 mile radius, 7 movie theaters total, only TWO are actually showing Twilight. And both of those theaters are located outside my county (there are three here, two way out near beach locations though). One would be nearly a 30 minute drive from where I’m at now, the other, over an hour long drive. Seriously? This being possibly the most hyped up movie this time of year, and it’s not even in a theater near me. That’s seriously f-ed up.

Then again, the theater closest to me just showed Saw V I think last week, you know, about a month after it hit theaters and a few weeks after Halloween. This is the crap we people in small towns have to put up with. It downright SUCKS!!

Just venting.

Credit Sucks

Around April of this year, I finally got a credit card (always put it off ’cause of the dangers it can lead to). Well this was a CareCredit card, for the sole purpose of things like my eye glasses and dentist. What sucks, Nov. 17, I got a letter saying it was closed, basically due to inactivity. I so far only made on purchase, and paid it off a few months ago, but was gonna use it for my dental appointment, which just so happens to have fallen on Nov. 17 as well. Hmm, great timing, huh?

Now my visits are being paid right from my checking instead, which sucks, ’cause well, financially, it sucks for everybody (unless you’re extremely rich, I see it as a person who was extremely rich is not extremely well off, the extremely well off is nicely well off, the nicely well off is doing fine, the doing fine is now holding on, and the holding on is scraping by, and the scraping by is literally screwed.)

Dentist Equals Conspiracy?

I had a teeth cleaning today, and usually I’ve been sort of well off, but with hours cut back where I work, I’ve been paying even more closer attention to where I spend my money on, more so than before. $107 it was, $68 for the actual cleaning (brutal, BTW, my teeth still hurt), and then there’s $39 for the actual dentist to examine my teeth (usually done before, I requested it not get done but there were concerns, however it was). Five damn minutes to basically confirm what the hygienist already was thinking, that cost $39. Seriously?

Not to mention, when I was a kid, I didn’t brush my teeth twice a day (hell, I actually didn’t brush them, sometimes maybe I did a once a month). What happened, okay, After a good 14-so years not routinely brushing in anyway, I got only ONE tooth that decayed so bad it had to be removed, and another with a fairly large cavitiy, and several little cavities, that’s it. Now I do the whole twice-a-day, and follow with Listerine, and every now and then, I use a tooth pick to just scrape near the gumline (consider it my way to scrape plaque and whatever). Still getting cavities, and a lot more troubles, especially when I got the braces, the way the teeth moved, it made my front bottom teeth, I guess slide a little out giving the appearance of receding gumline. NEVER had that issue until I got braces, hmm? Yet they’re gonna give me this crap that it is me not brushing right or whatever. Screw that, ’cause I used to not brush and I never had that problem. Now I’m not saying to not brush, just be careful with BS from the dentists.

‘Cause now I got to spend $132 for fillings, then another $132 for another batch of fillings, and some point in time this really, really expensive thing, a crown or something, because one of my oldest fillings is NATURALLY decaying. Maybe money could’ve been saved a long time ago by bypassing fillings that naturally deteriorate.

I also feel convinced that there is something in toothpaste that slowly screws your teeth up so you go to the dentist. Call me crazy or a conspiracy theorist, I don’t care, it’s just my opinion to how pissed I am. $107!!!! $39 for a five minute, (barely five minutes?) exam. People say vets overcharge, but my dog gets shots, her blood drawn and analyzed, plus the whole stool analyzing as well, her teeth, ears, and eyes a quick check, plus they check her heart (slight murmur, nothing serious), and it being yearly, I get her Heartworm meds, so, I think last time it was near $200, but wasn’t over. Just glad I didn’t get the X-Rays done, ’cause seriously, do they really need to do an x-ray of my mouth every year?

Okay, general ranting done, thanks for actually reading this, and if you have a similar bad experience with dentists (or orthodontists), please, post a comment.

Opinions on Black Friday

Hello anyone who managed to find me.

I’m gonna take a little time to mentioned what us in the Retail world refer to as Black Friday.  This is the Friday right after Thanksgiving, the official start of the holiday buying season.   Retail giants such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Circuit City, and so on…, have major sales on this day, such as, in the case of stores like Best Buy and Circuit City, a high-end electronic gadget for anywhere from $100-$300 or even more, cheaper than it normally is.  Stores even open up early (even a small retail store such as where I work, a small home decor like place), and can even implement time-sensitive sales (Early Bird specials, say from 7am to 11am only, this product is gonna be 75% off, or something).

For me, though, I hate it.  It sucks working at a retail store because of this, and it sucks knowing something you want is really cheap, but you aren’t stupid enough to get yourself killed for it, so you miss out on it.  I want to save money, but the idea of getting up in the wee-hours of the morning(or, for me, I’m probably already up, but more likely tired so thinking of going to sleep), wait in large crowds for a store to open, and chances, if it’s a limited supply, the item already gone.  I get there are people who are brave enough to handle it, I ain’t one of them.

Luckily, we have Black Monday. With shopping online gaining more popularity every year, it’s a new thing where several major online retailers have their version of Black Friday (as well as Black Friday Online Only kind of sales). Oddly, there are people who love waiting in line, then again, if everyone went for the online deals, probably every server for the top stores would crash.
